Watch where you put your duct tape!

I took this photo on my parents porch where a bird had made it's nest on top of a roll of duct tape that was placed on top of a light fixture. There are two unhatched eggs and two tiny baby birds that are hard to identify. They are so young they haven't even started chirping yet. The neighbor's cat is after them so let's hope they make it! Maybe I will get another photo when they are a bit cuter. Pin It

Coffee Filter Roses

I saw this craft on Martha's website and decided to give it a try this weekend. It was tedious but I think the roses are worth it. The photo above shows everything you need to make roses that look homegrown and will last forever with COFFEE FILTERS! After all the petals were cut from the filters (It takes 8 filters to complete one rose) and secured with floral tape, I watercolored them in cream and pink and lined the petals with undiluted paint. Happy Mother's Day!!! Pin It

Moss Rock Preserve

This weekend I discovered that Moss Rock Preserve is literally in my backyard. I knew it was close but the trails start maybe a mile from our doorstep. This is huge for me because I need a place to run Dusty and I also need to start training for our Grand Teton climb. I have been to the boulderfields several times but have never hiked the trails so this was all a pleasant suprise to me. Here is a pic of Dusty cooling off in the creek. Pin It

Runaway Tortoise

I found this guy in my brothers neighborhood in Tampa heading towards the busy highway. He was really moving but we changed his course and put him near a pond away from cars. Pin It

Malea and Aubrey

I had a great time visiting my two baby girls in Tampa this weekend. They are both so precious and sweet. Malea is 2 and Aubrey is 8 months. Pin It

Happy Easter!

These are a couple shots of some beautiful flowers I received this weekend. They almost look fake in the photos. I hope everyone had a good Easter! Pin It

Stuffed French Toast

I love to cook so this weekend I tried something new for brunch. This is french toast stuffed with cream cheese and sweetened strawberries. I think the secret is to use a real french bread loaf and dip the slices in a batter made of eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract. I already had peaches so I sliced those up and sprinkled with powdered sugar. I'm stuffed! Pin It

What's with that face?

I was running late for work this morning but I had to stop and get a couple of shots of Dusty. I mean he was putting every last drop of effort into his pout face. It must really be hard to lay around and sun yourself by the window all day. That's life pal! Pin It

Steak au Poivre and Dessert!

I made a dish from Village Tavern for Joel's birthday last night. Filets in a homemade cream sauce with loaded mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus! Brownies with Ben & Jerry's Phish Food ice cream and raspberries for dessert! Mmmmmmmm mmmm! It turned out pretty good! Happy Birthday Joel! Pin It

Happy Birthday Kelly!

I painted this Field of Poppies for my dear friend and roommate, Kelly. I was supposed to finish a painting for her back when she moved into her new house over a year and a half ago - oops! Anyway, she wanted something with flowers and the color red...so here it is. The painting is 24"x36" and is acrylic and modeling paste on gallery canvas. I am including a few pics of the finished painting and one of the not-so-finished version. I hope she likes it! Pin It

Valentine's Day Flower Boxes

I stained these little boxes that cost me $4 a piece and filled them with red and pink roses. A little supermoss to cover the floral foam completes it! Pin It

It's almost 80 degrees in February

I love this photo especially on a warm day like this. I took it last summer when we walked miles and miles in the Las Vegas heat and stopped for a refreshment. Someone should put a sign up there that says 'objects are FARTHER than they appear!' Pin It

What if Andy Warhol came to Birmingham?

Ever since watching Factory Girl I can't get Andy Warhol out of my head. Thought it might be fun to do a 'Warhol inspired' image today. In true fashion, why not use the most iconic thing Birmingham has to offer as subject matter? Now I just wish I could silkscreen! Pin It
